World War 3: Breaking The Girls of The Pacifier!!

It has finally come to this...the end of an era when the girls were given pacifiers. Addison had been broken for quite some time, and while it was tough, she was ok with not having one. However, the last 2 months have been terrible! She's been stealing them from Lauryn and hiding them from us. Little stinker!

I am ready for Lauryn to be done, too, so I took some drastic measures. I gathered up each pacifier that we had, and I cut a slit down the middle of each one. Not enough to make it fall apart, but enough to where it wouldn't work right. Then I just let the girls run around with it like they normally do. They both noticed right away that something was wrong with it, and Addison asked me repeatedly to fix her "fier." I just told her I didn't know how to fix it and if she wanted it, she'd have to deal with the "fier's" owies.

The method suggests then that every 2-3 days you cut a snippet off the end of it. Eventually they will get no satisfaction out of it, and hopefully be done with it. I think it'll be tougher for Lauryn because she's never been broken of it, but Addison...well, she better get used to not having it again! I go back to work in 2 weeks and I want the pacifier's gone!! We'll see how it goes!

A Proper Update...Lauryn Style!!

My baby is no longer my baby...she's almost 2!! I'm sad and blown away at how quickly time goes by. I'm so thankful to have 2 beautiful little girls, but I'm still shocked that my baby is growing up!

Lauryn is such a sweetheart! She is always smiling and generally a very happy little girl! She loves her mommy and she adores her sister. She follows Addison around like a lost puppy, but she also knows when to walk away from her. Lauryn is good about playing with herself when she can tell Addison is having a rough day. I like that she can entertain herself, and that she can have fun playing by herself too! She is amused with the strangest things but I love to sit and watch her.

Lauryn also has a temper, but it's just starting to show. She is becoming more verbal so we try to ask her what's wrong or what she wants when she starts to throw a tantrum, but she's still in that stage where a lot of what she says is still gibberish to us...if that makes any sense. She says a lot of words like: puppy, mommy, Addy, juice, cookie, milk, outside, fier (pacifier), swing, book, chip, daddy, and penny (what she calls her Aunt Jenny). She also likes to sing, although it's usually some melody that she made up on her own :)

We're gearing up to start potty training here in the fall. She sat on the potty once this summer and by some fluke she actually peed on the potty!! I praised her like crazy, but I don't think she quite understood what I was doing and why I was so happy. We're still going strong with the cloth diapers. I use mainly Mother Ease OS diapers and Thirsties covers, but there are some diapers that Todd likes called CuddleBunz, so we have a few of those too! Daddy grumbles a lot about it, but I don't think he's realized just how much money we've saved this year not buying diapers...

Our next battle with Lauryn is taking away the pacifier. It never used to be an issue and now Addison is stealing them from her, so she is more attached to them than ever. Thankfully daycare doesn't allow them, and grandma is going to be told that she can't have them either, so they'll do the dirty work for me :)

Alright, Lauryn insists on spinning me around in the chair, so I'm off for now...Take care!

A Proper Update...Addison Style!

I thought I would give a proper update since the other day I was running short on time. My girls are growing up and they aren't my little babies anymore. It really breaks my heart :( I can't believe how big they are getting and how grownup they act for their age.

Let's start with Addison...man, she's a pistol! She can be the sweetest little girl, and within a matter of seconds...BAM! She's angry and ready to hurt someone. She definately has a temper on her, and we're working on those issues with her. She is a hitter and a biter, which makes me as a mother very scared for when she goes to school. We decided last year that it was time to enroll Addison into part-time daycare to help get her acquanted with other kids her age, and to teach her that it's not all about her. She has to learn to share and play with other kids. Thankfully, it's doing some good. When she goes to daycare she is so good for Michelle. She was only in time-out once the entire 8 months she was there. Of course, she was in time-out for biting one of the boys.

She's getting better every day, but when she's home around Lauryn, or even around her cousin, there's nothing to stop her from going off. She doesn't seem to understand that even though they're family, she has to treat them nicely like she does the boys and girls at daycare. It's a work in progress, but she's getting there.

Addy is 98% potty trained. She will go through naps and all day without an accident, but nighttime is still an issue. I think if she really wanted, she could do it, but she likes wearing a pull-up. She tries to wear pull-ups during her nap too. I have to constantly remind her that she's a big girl and doesn't need a pull-up, but 9 times out of 10 when I go in her room to check on her during nap, she has gotten out a pull-up and put it on herself. Little stinker!

We're gearing up for a big year of learning before she goes to pre-school. She knows her colors and can sing her ABC's. However, she doesn't recognize any of the letters by sight or any numbers. I'm looking into some activities that might help with that, and I'm hoping she'll learn some of those things at daycare too! That's where she learned her colors :) She wants to learn and is always asking questions. She wants to be such a big kid. She has baked a cake on her own (Mommy just put it in the oven for her), and helps fold the laundry, and does all these things that a little 3 yr. old shouldn't be doing yet. It makes me sad because she is a little girl now...not my baby. I'm excited to see how she progresses this year getting ready for pre-school. It's crazy to think that in a year, my baby will be in school :( Ok...better get onto an update of Lauryn too!

Wow! It's been a long time!

It's been over a year since I've been to the blog. The girls are doing so well! Addison jus turned 3 and she's such a smart cookie! She is saying and doing things every day that amaze me! I can't believe that she's so big! It seems as if just yesterday she was a newborn in my arms :( She knows her colors and is working on counting her fingers.

Lauryn is such a pistol! She is 20 months now and she is copying everything that Addison does. She talks constantly, and while most of it is jibberish, some of it makes a lot of sense ;) She's always on the go and tagging along with her sister! I'll be back to update more tomorrow. It's been a long night!

Teeth, rashes, and potty training :)

Well, Lauryn popped her other bottom tooth on June 18, Mommy and Daddy's anniversary :)They are both pretty visable now, so hopefully she'll let Mommy get a good picture soon. Overall, Lauryn is doing pretty well. She really wants to crawl! She gets up on all fours and starts rocking back and forth. I think in a few weeks or so, she'll be mobile. I swear she took a "step" the other day, but Daddy thinks I was imagining it. Guess we'll see.

Lately, I've noticed that Lauryn has developed a rash on her belly and her legs. Todd swears it was from her cloth diapers, which I don't buy. I think either it's an allergic reaction to the detergent that we're using, or maybe she's allergic to peaches. I'm going to skip peaches for the next few days and see if it goes away. If not, then I'll try switching detergents and see. If I remember correctly, Addy broke out in a rash too from peaches, so we'll see.

Addison is doing pretty well with potty training. She now wears underwear all day, except for naptime and bedtime. She still has an accident or two every day, but she's improving tremendously, and it looks like my goal of Addy being dry all day by August just might come true!Anyway, that's an update from us. Take care!!

Lauryn has her 1st tooth!!

Yes, Lauryn popped her first tooth last Sunday night! She'd been terribly moody and extra pukey, so I figured something was up. I also noticed that she had developed quite the diaper rash and so I took a peek inside her mouth, and there it was!! Her first tooth: bottom right tooth!! I was so excited. I think the other one will pop soon enough, so now it's just a waiting game :)

So far, so good...

I am still enjoying the cloth diapers that arrived on Monday. In fact, I've ordered two more covers, and am looking at ordering several more diapers. Lauryn doesn't seem to notice their is anything different on her lil' bootie, so that's good. I thought it would be a lot more work, and so far, it isn't. Yes, I have to wash the diapers every night, but that is only because I don't have a large enough stash to do laundry every couple of days. Once I get my stash built up, I should be able to go more days in between washes. The only thing that appears to be different is that I have to rinse out the poopy diapers, but that's no biggy either...how many times have I had to do that with blowout diapers anyway :) I'm glad we made the switch, so hopefully in another couple of weeks, I'll still be glad we made the switch :)
